Kolena Laila

We are all Laila on October 19th and every day.

UPDATE: Nermeen Edrees at Global Voices has a nice round up on what the day entailed, and also from GV, Amira al Hussseini with a bit of background on Kolena Laila. For me the project is about sharing, dialougue and empowerment, and i really enjoyed the fact that it was cross-generational this time, with the piece from Manal´s mother and Maat´s piece about her grandmother´s University years in 1944-48, almost corresponding to Latifa Zayyat´s own time at the University during the early and mid 40´s. This opened up space to voices and added perspectives that would not be heard in the blogospere otherwise.

My point being that this day is a fantastic achievement! But it´s also important as a reminder to myself as a man in particular to cover topics that focus on women and equality, issues that are equally important to all of us, but perhaps dosent garner as much attention on my part. To show solidarity and try to listen more, and perhaps talk less every single day.

if you like this day.. then we need your help :)

how about criticizing the day from a point if view of a "man" who is "away from the spot light"..
I mean you only read but didnt share in things...

Hi Lasto Adri:) First of all, you all did a fantastic job!

I´ll be more than happy to contribute, the only reason for me not to do a ¨real post¨about it at that point in time was lack of time. I haven´t had the time to blog much at all , lately, due to other commitments i am afraid.

There will be blogposts on the topic in point in the near future. I would have wanted to be more constructive on the 19th, but dont want to write a blog post just for the sake of it, that´s why i made the ¨compromise¨of putting the banner up as an act of support and solidarity and also to show how important it is, and indeed also as a way of showing how dynamic the Egyptian Blogosphere is.
